Diesel motorhomes are great for a lot of reasons. Diesel engines provide an incredible amount of torque that makes it easier to get up long mountain roads, tow extra weight, or even pass someone on the highway. Most diesel engines are designed to only reach a very low rev-limit.

Most factories will install turbochargers on diesel engines to improve the power output. They do this because as mentioned above, the diesel engine cannot rev very high. Since power is measured as the ability to do work over time, the diesel engine has a very short amount of time to do any work before it needs to shift to the next gear. By adding a turbocharger you can increase the amount of power that it makes in the short amount of time. Turbochargers are known for making big power and torque gains with the right vehicle application.

Downsides to a Turbocharger:

Do to the way turbochargers function off of exhaust pressure, they can get extremely hot by nature. This added heat in your engine bay can be hard on the engine if it is not properly cooled. It is important to make sure that the oil is changed regularly to ensure that all moving parts are lubricated.
